Days Itinerary

Arrive in Ahmedabad to a warm welcome by our Ameera Holidays tour guide who escorts you to your hotel to check in and freshen up. A little while later you join the group for the local city tour. We go to the historic Gandhi Ashram on the banks of the Sabarmati River from where he set out on the Dandi March. The Little Chandrabhaga Bridge still exists. Thereafter the group moves to the Hathisingh Jain Temples, only a short distance away, full of wonderfully intricate carvings and a number of statues of the Jain Tirthankaras. From here we go to Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar, about 30 km away and then return to Ahmedabad for the night. The underground cave in the temple showcasing the life of Nilkanth and the short film will impress you.

Breakfast and check out of your room. Visit Bala Hanuman Temple known for non-stop chanting of Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram chant since 1964. Board the coach for the drive to Jamnagar. We stop at Adalaj Stepwell to admire the intricate carvings before boarding the coach for the long drive to the city of Maharaja Shri Ranjit Sinhji. Check into your hotel, relax, dine and set out for a walk to explore local markets.

While in Saurashtra you must snack on fafda, jalebi and gathiya. Enjoy these treats, check out of your room and board the waiting coach. It will take about 3 hours to cover the 150 km distance to Dwarka where you check into your hotel. Lunch is typical Kathiawadi style thali. Thereafter the group sets out to visit Bet Dwarka, “Bet” means Small Island. This is where Lord Krishna originally resided according to folklore. Then we visit the famous Nageshwar Jyotirlinga temple said to be one of the site of one of the 12 jyotirlingas in India. After that it is time to visit Gopi Talav and adjoining Rukmini Temple.

Breakfast on Kathiawari delicacies and set out for Somnath, a 1.5-hour drive to cover the 50 km distance. On the way the coach stops at Porbandar to visit Kirti Mandir and the Haveli where Mahatma Gandhi was born. It is a museum currently, housing artifacts of the Bapu. While in Porbandar we visit Sudama temple built to commemorate the friendship between Lord Krishna and Sudama. After that we proceed to Somnath. The group visits the legendary Somnath Temple that was looted and razed several times but rebuilt each time by devotees. In Somnath, you will also visit Balka Tirth temple where it is said Lord Krishna was shot in the foot by an arrow. Return to your room, freshen up and then have dinner after which you can take a walk by the seashore in the moonlight.

After a hearty breakfast, we board the coach for the 50 km drive to Gir, home of the last of the Asiatic Lions. The Gir Reserve is also home to the variety of deer, crocodiles in the reservoirs and numerous birds. Arrive in the afternoon and join a safari for a tour of the Gir and sighting of the lions in their natural habitat. Stay in a lodge close to the Gir forest.

Diu is a small island reached by a crossing a road bridge. It has a quaint Portuguese, laid-back atmosphere and the Fort is worth a visit. You can just as well relax on the beach. Stay overnight. Diu is a Central Union Territory and you could enjoy drinks and Portuguese fare here. Gujarat is dry and Diu comes as a pleasant change.
